The 2026 Annual Bull Sale
The 2026 Annual Bull SaleMarch 13, 2026Our annual bull sale lands on the Friday the 15th of May for 2026. This will be our 37th annual bull sale and will include a variety of Charolais and Charolais Composite bulls. The sale will be held at Rosedale Farm, in Blayney, NSW. The sale is an on-farm auction, where our Charolais bulls are presented for purchase. Again this year we are assisted by selling agents, Elders and Bowyer and Livermore, and the auction will be run by Paul Dooley and Nick Fogarty. AuctionsPlus will also be utilised enabling online bidding and viewing. This year’s Charolais bulls are again dominated by homozygous polled bulls and we are always proud that all of the bulls offered are polled. Last year, on offer there were composite Charolais cross Angus bulls and Charolais cross Shorthorns, and Charolais heifers. All of which sold well. We are focusing on a type that will produce top tier weight gains but won’t let you down on carcase quality, as we are committed to developing Charolais infused genetics that will suit the modern day Australian cattlemen and cattle women. We have many people attending the sale, who travel all over the country and interstate. This includes buyers from Queensland, to Victoria and Tasmania. We also have buyers online on AuctionsPlus. Prior to the sale, the bulls will be semen tested, by a qualified veterinarian, to ensure the sperm’s motility (how well they swim), morphology (the shape and structure) and overall concentration are up to the strict fertility standards. This means our bulls are in top condition for purchase for the sale. We are proud to announce the draft of bulls in this year’s sale, which is achievable with the strong breeding herd we have built up from the past 50 years. We are proud to see females from our previous sire lines becoming great mothers and stamping their quality into their offspring. When production is quick and easy, we can focus on producing quality meat and achieving maximum production. The catalogue for our upcoming sale will be available soon. This will help you get organised for the annual sale and give you the opportunity to get familiar with the bulls that will be available on the day. We have some new sire lines coming through and a large variety of White and Red Factor Charolais bulls in this year’s catalogue. [...] Read more...

The 2017 Farmer of the Year Awards
The 2017 Farmer of the Year AwardsMarch 6, 2018FORGET about paddock to plate: the Millner family have the beef industry wrapped up from source to main course. The family, from central NSW, juggles running one of Australia’s biggest polled Charolais studs with a growing commercial enterprise and, more recently, a paddock-to-plate brand that is feeding the growing Asian appetite for quality beef. The centrepiece of the operation, run across 6500 hectares in three districts at Blayney, Dubbo and Coonamble, is the Rosedale Charolais stud, founded in 1970 and the oldest registered Charolais herd in NSW selling more than 150 bulls a year. The Rosedale herd comprises 400 registered Charolais females and 1200 predominantly Angus and Shorthorn commercial cows. The stud cows are run at Blayney with the commercial herd split between Dubbo and Coonamble. It’s a strategic move aimed at drought-proofing the operation, according to brothers James and Robert Millner, who are in charge of the stud and commercial operations respectively. The Rosedale herd is at the cutting edge of the industry with the use of science and technology paramount to the business. Breed pioneers when it comes to the uptake of Breedplan performance recording, the Millners have also used hybrid vigour as a way of lifting growth rates, and profits, both within their own herd and those of their clients. In the commercial herd, the best 50 per cent of the steers and heifers are fattened on oat crops and lucerne silage, and sold to the Coles grass-fed program, with the remainder sent to a northern NSW feedlot where they are finished for the Millners’ Rosedale Ruby beef brand. Rosedale Ruby started as “an exciting side venture” five years ago and has exceeded all expectations. Throughput has grown from 50 cattle a month in 2012 to 600 now. China and Hong Kong are the biggest export markets for Rosedale Ruby, with Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Switzerland and the Middle East also prominent. It is this worldly outlook, backed up by superior genetics, marketing and product, that makes Rosedale Charolais worthy winners of The Weekly Times Coles 2017 Beef Farmer of the Year.
